About Jenny Backeberg
I have always been interested in the way humans experience and express emotion and how this impacts our relationships with each other and ourselves. I became curious about my own inner experience in my late teens and learned first-hand the power & benefits of counselling. It is this amazing power to move seemingly unmovable boulders that led me to pursue a career in this field. I have come to strongly believe, as Jung wrote, that just as we are often wounded in relationships, we also can heal in relationships. A counselling relationship is a testament to this.
I believe that, as humans, we are always trying our best in every circumstance, but that when our 'best' is disrupted by trauma, loss, pain and wounding experiences, our 'best' can become warped into unhelpful behaviours, thoughts and emotions. My goal is to help clients get back in touch with their authentic self: the self that moves toward wholeness and health. This offers clients the possibility to make lasting changes and reach their goals, improve their relationships, and reduce their distress as they become unstuck from the past and move powerfully, and courageously, into the new.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England and a Diploma in Professional Counselling from the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training. I have experience working with teens and adults in educational settings, live-in substance use treatment programs, employee-assistance programs and various health authorities in BC. I have been in clinical practice since 2013.
